Course Objectives

To enable delegates to carry out an efficient and orderly evacuation of the premises in an emergency situation.

Course Length

Half a day.

  • Role of Fire Marshall / Warden
    Duties and responibilities as designated. Need for deputies.
  • Triangle of Fire
    Awareness of fire and the effects of fire and the effects of toxic gases and to react appropriately in the event of fire.
  • Fire Prevention
    Good Housekeeping, hazard spotting and reporting.
  • Fire Alarms
    • Practical Fire Alarm instruction with Demonstration Board.
    • How to raise the alarm.
    • Actions on discovering a fire or hearing a fire alarm.
    • Calling the Fire Brigade.
    • Phased evacuation if needed.
  • Evacuation Proceedures
    • Assembly points.
    • Reporting to the Fire Brigade.
    • Checking areas (toilettes, staff rooms etc).
    • Disabled.
    • Visitors / Contractors.
    • Fire Doors
    • Turning off Plant and Machinery
    • Lifts
    • Video showing Fire Marshall in practice.
  • Fire Extinhuishers
    Theory of and practice in the use of fire extinguishers.
  • Practical session in the use of Fire Extinuishers.
